President of the Senate says he was “appalled” by the statements and denies having discussed Master’s CPI with the PL leader
The president of the Senate, (União Brasil-AP), said on Wednesday (18.mar.2026) that he was “astonished” with the statements made by the president of the Liberal Party, Valdemar Costa Neto -whom he called “mythoman”-, about a possible agreement for the overthrow of in exchange for the withdrawal of CPMI from Banco Master.
“I was appalled by the statements made by the president of the Liberal Party, who I have great respect for. I have not taken a stand until today because we are experiencing so much aggression, so much offense and, in this case, so many lies, from some people who think they have the right to invent anything and think it is true. That is a disease. It is called a mythomaniac. The person who lies repeatedly and believes his lie”, said Alcolumbre, during the deliberative session.
“As I am not a doctor, I do not want to make any public consultation with the former federal deputy and president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto. I have never, absolutely never, dealt with Valdemar Costa Neto in relation to this subject of the Congress session, the vote on dosimetry vetoes —maintenance or overturning— or on the CPI of Banco Master.”, declared.

The statement comes after a speech by Valdemar in an interview with the program Free Channelyes Bandgoing viral again on social media this week. At the time, the president of the PL said that he would have offered an agreement so that the veto on the Dosimetry text would be overturned in exchange for the non-installation of a CPI by Banco Master.
“I had a proposal this week, but I can’t do it. I spoke to Rogério Marinho: they want to vote on dosimetry as long as they don’t do the Master Bank CPI in the Senate”said Valdemar, also highlighting that Alcolumbre would be one of those interested.

Dosimetry PL
The —identified as Veto 3/2026— prevents the text from coming into force. The project, approved by Congress in December, reduces sentences for those convicted under different circumstances within the same act related to the coup attempts registered in 2022 and 2023.
When justifying the veto, the president (PT) claimed that he would not sanction measures that.
Senators aligned with the former president (PL) are pressing for the analysis of the veto. The decision, however, still depends on a vote by the National Congress, and there is no forecast for the topic to be discussed.
