The Setúbal Court condemned Nuno da Silva to 12 and a half years in prison for trying to kill his five-year-old son, in a case that occurred in October 2024, in Quinta do Conde. The defendant, who participated in the Love on Top program, was considered guilty of qualified homicide in the form of attempted and domestic violence against the two children.
According to the panel of judges, it was proven that Nuno da Silva drugged the child with pillsapplied a cloth soaked in ethyl ether to her face and, later, doused her body with gasoline while she slept. Despite the seriousness of the acts, he did not set the fire.
The facts date back to the morning of October 14, 2024, when the accused took advantage of the absence of the children’s mother to act. In addition to the attempted murder, Nuno da Silva was convicted of a history of domestic violence against their children, which included physical attacks and punishments in isolation. The court highlighted typical patterns of abuse, with episodes of violence followed by compensatory behavior.
As part of the sentence, the defendant was further prohibited from exercising parental responsibilities and ordered to pay compensation of R$35,000 to the son he tried to kill and R$5,000 to the other.
