FC Porto's complaint against Suárez partially dismissed

FC Porto’s complaint against Sporting striker Luis Suárez has been partially archived, announced the Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), which ruled on the moves involving defender Bednarek.

The ‘dragons’ filed a complaint against the Colombian international, contesting the striker’s behavior in the first leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals between Sporting and FC Porto, played at the José Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon, which the ‘lions’ won 1-0, with a goal from Suárez from the penalty spot.

What is at stake?

FC Porto’s complaint took into account alleged attacks by Suárez on the Polish defender Bednarek, who left in the first half due to physical problems, in addition to gestures from the forward, which led the president of FC Porto, André Villas-Boas, at the end of the match, to state that he had “called the referee of the match, Cláudio Pereira, a thief with gestures”.

The FPF CD released the partial filing of the complaint, in a document in which it analyzes the moves involving Suárez and Bednarek.

“If there is no exceptional situation that justifies the intervention of this Council, namely because the two moves referred to here were perceived and evaluated in their entirety by the arbitration team, we fully adhere to the aforementioned position, concluding that, in the case in question, even if an accusation were to be filed, the probability of acquittal would prevail over the probability of conviction, which not only legitimizes, but also imposes, the partial archiving of the present disciplinary proceedings, thus if deciding”, states the document.

Regarding the gestures of Sporting’s Colombian striker, the FPF CD has not yet commented, and it is expected that this case will be analyzed independently.
