LaGuardia remains closed this Monday (Mar 23); pilot, co-pilot and two people are injured
An Air Canada Express plane collided with a port authority vehicle while landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Sunday night (Mar 22, 2026). The incident led to the closure of the airport this Monday (23 March).
According to the television network, the pilot and co-pilot are seriously injured. Two other people, a sergeant and a police officer, suffered fractures and are in stable condition in a hospital.

According to the flight tracking website, the CRJ-900 plane, which was coming from Montreal (Canada), hit the vehicle at a speed of around 39 km/h. Images show that the nose of the aircraft was damaged.
The jet was operated by Air Canada’s regional partner and has capacity for up to 76 passengers. THE NBC News reported that there were 76 passengers and 4 crew on board.
A issued a grounding order for all planes at the airport. In other words, flights that would travel towards LaGuardia must not take off. Arriving planes were diverted to other airports or returned to their point of origin. The airport is expected to remain closed until late afternoon this Monday (23rd March).
