The entire PL bench in the Senate supported a project that equates misogyny with the crime of racism and splits the right
The former federal deputy (PL-SP) criticized the proposal that equates misogyny with the crime of racism, approved by the Senate on Tuesday (24 March 2026), although the senator (PL-RJ), his brother, and the PL bench present in the House voted in favor of the text. On Monday (23 March), before the vote, he stated that the project should be “completely repudiated” and accused allies of promoting an agenda that they consider incompatible with Bolsonarism.
“I cannot silently accept that they hijack the conservative Bolsonarista movement for an ideological agenda that I consider unnatural and aggressively anti-masculine”he wrote. In the text, Eduardo said that there is an attempt to “transforming the right into a radical feminist movement” and criticized the incorporation of feminist concepts into the political agenda of right-wing parties.
The , authored by the senator (PDT-MA), includes misogyny in Law 7,716 of 1989, which deals with crimes resulting from prejudice based on race or color. As a result, practices of discrimination, offenses or incitement to hatred against women are now punished in the same way as crimes of racism. The project was reported by the senator (Podemos-MS). Despite Eduardo’s criticism, all PL senators voted in favor of the proposal. Among them, Flávio Bolsonaro, who is a pre-candidate for President. Senators (PL-SP), (PL-ES) and (PL-RN) were not present in the vote.
In the text published on social media, Eduardo said that the initiative represents a distortion of values. According to him, the agenda he defends “aims to rescue fraternity between the sexes, and not increase conflicts through laws considered persecutory and draconian”. The former deputy stated that proposals of this type should be challenged by right-wing congressmen.
Eduardo declared that feminism promotes a division between men and women and that there is an attempt to shape institutions to harm men. “Never before in human history have men and women seen each other as competitors in war.”he wrote. The former congressman called for political mobilization and the defense of what he considers traditional values.
The proposal now goes to the Chamber of Deputies for analysis.
If approved by the deputies and then sanctioned by the president (PT), the act of insulting someone by offending their dignity or decorum due to misogyny will have a sentence of 2 to 5 years, in addition to a fine. Practicing, inducing or inciting discrimination or prejudice against women will also become a criminal offense, with a penalty of 1 to 3 years.
The penalty will be double for crimes committed against women in the context of domestic and family violence.
The judge must consider as discriminatory any attitude that causes embarrassment, humiliation or undue exposure to women who would not be considered in other groups.
The project says that the judge must consider how “discriminatory is any attitude or treatment given to a person or minority groups that causes embarrassment, humiliation, shame, fear or undue exposure, and that would not usually be given to other groups due to color, ethnicity, religion, national origin or status as a woman”.
