USA: ICE agents at airports are an “insult”, say union leaders

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) union leaders have sharply criticized US President Donald Trump’s administration’s decision to station immigration agents at certain airports this week, amid long lines for security checks.

Travelers have faced hours-long lines to get through checkpoints recently as the number of TSA employees missing work has increased during the partial government shutdown. TSA employees have not received full pay since mid-February.

TSA employees are outraged that they are being paid — through “One Big Beautiful Bill” funding — while TSA agents are not, union leaders said at a news conference today.

“This is almost an insult to employees,” said Johnny Jones, secretary-treasurer of AFGE (American Federation of Government Employees) TSA Council 100.

TSA employees are also worried about losing their jobs following the presence of ICE agents.
