Former golf number one Tiger Woods was arrested on Friday on charges of driving under the influence after his Land Rover rolled over on a two-lane road near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida. According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Department, the 15-time majors champion was released after passing the 8-hour period required by Florida law before posting bond.
Woods sped past a service truck pulling a trailer when he touched the rear of the vehicle, causing his car to roll over and come to rest with the driver’s side on the ground, Sheriff John Budensiek said at a news conference.

After the 50-year-old player crawled out the passenger door, he refused to take a urine test, an infraction that constitutes a separate charge under Florida law. A breathalyzer test taken at the Martin County jail did not detect traces of alcohol — and investigators said they believed Woods was under the influence of drugs or medication.
No injuries were reported to either Woods or the driver of the other vehicle, but he was charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a legally required test, all charges classified as misdemeanors.
Trump complains
This Saturday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, lamented the incident.
“I feel really bad. There was an accident. He’s having some difficulties. There was an accident, and that’s all I know. A very close friend of mine. He’s an incredible person, an incredible man,” Trump said.

This was the second time Woods has faced charges of this type. He was arrested in 2017 in Jupiter, Florida, later pleading guilty to reckless driving.
Woods was also involved in another car accident in February 2021, suffering serious leg fractures.
According to Reuters, his injury history spans more than two decades and includes multiple back surgeries, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, Achilles tendon rupture and chronic knee problems, all factors that have significantly limited his competitive schedule in recent years.
Woods had just returned to competition, representing his Jupiter Links Golf Club in a TGL final match on Tuesday, his first appearance since failing in the 2024 British Open.
He had not yet confirmed whether he intended to compete in this year’s Masters, which begins on April 9 in Augusta.
