Minister of Education will leave his position to work on the PT campaign “traveling the country”
The president (PT) stated this Wednesday (April 1, 2026) that, in his assessment, the Minister of Education, (PT), is a leader with national reach. He advocated that he expand his political activities across the country.
In an interview with TV City of CearáLula said he needs Camilo “traveling the country”. He stated that, upon leaving the ministry and returning to the Senate, the former governor of Ceará will have more freedom to position himself politically.
Camilo’s departure has already been defined by the government and should take place this Wednesday (April 1). The president himself stated that the minister will leave his position to work in the PT’s electoral articulations in 2026. The current executive secretary of the department, Leonardo Barchini, .
According to the president, Camilo will be a “important electoral cable” and will help in the construction of new national leaders within the PT. Lula stated that the minister must be “used nationally” to increase its recognition among the electorate and strengthen the party’s political project.
FUTURE OF PT & ELECTIONS
Camilo Santana’s departure is part of a broader government strategy to reinforce the PT’s political performance in the 2026 elections.

The idea is to use names with regional weight – especially in the Northeast – to strengthen state platforms and expand the party’s support base in the country.
Camilo’s name is one of the PT members mentioned, alongside the former Minister of Finance, as a possible successor to Lula.
Despite this, Lula indicated that Camilo wants an elected position, but that he would not like to see him running for office in Ceará in the coming years. He said he hoped the minister “don’t pretend to be a candidate” in the State and praised the current governor, (PT), whom he classified as “a good candidate”.
The president also stated that he had “sort” by having Haddad and, later, Camilo in the Ministry of Education. He declared that the choice of the current minister was due to Ceará’s educational results, which were higher than the national average.
