Feira da Serra returns to São Brás de Alportel this summer with a new model, closer to the population and with free entry, maintaining its identity linked to traditions and local economic dynamism. The event takes place on the 24th, 25th and 26th of July, with the town center taking over as the main stage.
The Feira da Serra de São Brás de Alportel takes place this year with a renewed format, bringing it even closer to the community. As the municipality says, “the Feira da Serra de São Brás de Alportel returns this year with a new format, even closer to people, fully accessible and with free entry for everyone!”
The event will take place on the 24th, 25th and 26th of July, “Friday, Saturday and Sunday”, with a decentralized proposal. According to the statement, “Feira da Serra ‘comes to the village’, inviting residents and visitors to experience the essence of the Algarve mountains in the Center of the Village of São Brás de Alportel, taking advantage of the Urban Center rehabilitation strategy.”
Maintained identity, renewed experience
Despite the changes, the event maintains its traditional pillars. As the municipality highlights, “maintaining its identity based on the valorization of local products, traditional knowledge and flavors, the commitment to innovation, the valorization of youth and the dynamization of the local economy and entertainment for the whole family”, Feira da Serra presents itself in a new format.
The objective is to create a dynamic environment in the urban center, and, as described, the event will “transform the heart of the village into a living stage of experiences for the whole family.”
New location brings event closer to the community
The change of location is the result of a deliberate strategy by the organization. The municipality explains that “the Organizing Committee opted for this new approach, which takes the event outside its usual venue, the EB 2,3 Poeta Bernardo de Passos School, and integrates it into the daily life of the town, promoting greater proximity to the community and everyone who visits São Brás de Alportel at this time of year.”
Decision based on responsibility criteria
The format change also comes in a context of financial and structural challenges. According to , “this change also appears as a response of resilience and responsibility, in a current context of enormous challenges.”
The municipality also highlights that “following the severe bad weather that hit the country, the Municipality was faced with the need to make a very significant investment in the recovery of road infrastructure”, namely on Municipal Road 1202.
Given this scenario, the organization decided to maintain the event with a more adjusted model, assuming “the commitment to carry it out in an adapted way, with 1/5 of the investment of its usual format.”
Balanced management and reinforcement of the local economy
The reduction to three days and the holding in the urban center ensure the continuity of the event, considered structural for the municipality. The municipality says that this solution aims to “simultaneously ensure a balanced management of the municipality’s resources.”
The funds saved will be directed to priority interventions, and “the funds not allocated to the event will be channeled to reinforce the Road Network Requalification Plan.”
At the same time, the organization believes that this new location could directly benefit local businesses, enhancing the economic impact of the initiative.
Tradition and innovation continue to mark the event
Feira da Serra remains one of the main moments of cultural affirmation in the municipality. According to the statement, it is “the celebration of mountain culture, continuing to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation, in an event that strives for authenticity, diversity and provides unique moments for the whole family”, and is also “the meeting point that attracts thousands of people to São Brás de Alportel every year”.
The organization also leaves an invitation: “We are still waiting for everyone on the last weekend of July”.
Registration opens at the end of April
The registration period for participants in the spaces provided by the organization, namely artisans, producers, among others, will be open from April 27th to May 15th.
As for gastronomic spaces and other specific areas, the information will be released soon, with the city hall saying that “registration will soon open, with publication in the municipal media.”
