A twist in the case of an accident with two victims († 70, † 72) in the east: the Regional Court reduced the defendant’s sentence!

In the case of a tragic traffic accident from December 2024 near the village of Kobyly in the district of Bardejov, which claimed two lives, the appeal panel of the Regional Court (KS) in Prešov decided. He imposed on the defendant a total prison sentence of two years and eight months and a ban on driving motor vehicles for a period of five years. TASR was informed about the decision by Ivana Petrufová, spokeswoman of the KS in Prešov.

The defendant will serve her sentence in a minimum-security prison. The decision to reduce the original prison sentence was made in a closed session on Wednesday (April 1). At the same time, the Appeals Chamber annulled the judgment of the District Court of Bardejov from December 5, 2025 in the contested sentence. He rejected the appeal of the victims.

“The appeals panel, reviewing the matter within the framework of the relevant provisions of the criminal codes, assessed the imposition of the sentence from the point of view of individual and general prevention, both in view of the defendant’s person, who led a normal life before committing the crime, and in view of the defendant’s approach to the criminal proceedings – her confession to committing the act, remorse and declaration of guilt at the main hearing before the district court,” the spokeswoman informed. The decision of the Bardejov District Court in connection with the decision of the KS in Prešov is legally binding.

The Bardejovsk District Court previously found the defendant guilty of the offense of manslaughter and the offense of bodily harm in the criminal case in question. For this, he sentenced her to a total imprisonment of four years and six months, as well as a ban on driving all types of motor vehicles for a period of three years. He obliged the defendant to compensate the victims for the damage caused in the amount of 5788 euros, in the amount of 135 euros and 1430 euros. In the other case, the court referred the injured party with a claim for compensation to a civil process.

The collision of Audi Q7 and Škoda Fabia passenger vehicles occurred on December 26, 2024, shortly before 11:00 a.m. two people aged 70 and 72 died in it.
