There are stars who steadfastly refuse to reveal their secrets. γ Cassiopeiae (Gamma Cassiopeiae), the third brightest middle star in the large “W” of the constellation Cassiopeia, is one of these strange celestial objects. The Italian astronomer Angelo Secchi identified it as the first representative of a very special class, the so-called Be stars, as early as 1866.
