The EuroMillions prize grows again and reaches 92 million euros tonight, after there were no totalists in the last draw. The expectation is repeated in thousands of bets made in Portugal and the rest of Europe, in a game where the probability of getting the winning key remains extremely small, but where strategies and statistical readings that try to give some guidance to players persist.
According to , a publication specialized in economics and current affairs, 78 Portuguese people have already reached the first prize since the creation of the draw, which keeps alive the idea that, despite the odds, winning is still possible.
Mathematics doesn’t change the game, but it helps you understand
The way Euromillions works remains simple. Each bet involves choosing five numbers between 1 and 50 and two stars between 1 and 12. The base cost is 2.5 euros, which can increase according to the number of combinations selected.
The chances of getting the full key right are one in over 139 million. This value results from the total number of possible combinations, which exceeds two million just when choosing the five main numbers, not counting the stars.
Statistical experts have highlighted that there is no formula capable of guaranteeing victories. The only direct way to increase the odds involves purchasing more bets, although this also represents a larger investment without any guarantee of return.
Still, some studies suggest frequent patterns in results. One of the most cited points to the balanced distribution between even and odd numbers. Combinations with three numbers of one type and two of another tend to appear more frequently, while all-even or all-odd sequences are less common.
The most and least frequent numbers
The historical analysis of draws allows you to identify curious trends. According to the same source, based on data from Santa Casa da Misericórdia, there are numbers that stand out due to the frequency with which they leave.
Among the most common are 44, 42 and 23, followed by 19 and 29. In the case of stars, numbers 2 and 3 clearly lead in terms of number of occurrences.
At the opposite extreme, there are numbers that appear less regularly. This is the case with 22, 33, 46, 41 and 18. Some stars, such as 10, 11 and 12, have a more discreet presence in the results over the years.
Despite these statistics, experts remember that each draw is independent. In other words, the fact that a number has come up many times in the past does not increase or decrease the probability of it coming up again.
The jackpot continues to accumulate whenever there are no first prize winners, reaching a maximum limit currently set at 240 million euros, a value revised in 2022.
According to the same source, these statistical readings can serve as guidance for those who bet regularly, but they do not change the nature of the game. In essence, EuroMillions remains a game of chance, where luck remains the determining factor.
