The governor and pre-candidate for re-election (Republicans) said he was in favor of the proposal for , filed by the senator and presidential candidate (-RJ) last month.
“I, today, think that re-election is doing harm to Brazil”, said Tarcísio this Tuesday (7), during the delivery of a swimming pool in Franco da Rocha, in Grande.
Tarcísio, who will seek a second term as state government in the second half of the year, called Flávio’s PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) a “right thing for Brazil”. The text determines that the president is ineligible for the same role in the following election, a prohibition that does not apply to other political positions.
As shown by Sheetthe PEC is seen by those around Flávio, including Tarcísio himself, that the path to the Palácio do Planalto would be free in 2030. Furthermore, it would attract the support of governors, deputies and senators seeking re-election.
The proposal would also not exclude his father, (PL), from seeking the Presidency again if he leaves prison, as the veto would only be for two consecutive terms.
“We have to question ourselves, at this moment, to what extent re-election is helping the country or not. To what extent a person who enters can establish a long-term vision or is left very much hostage to the possibility of re-election, leaving or wasting time, failing to do what actually needs to be done”, declared Tarcísio.
The governor also stated that it is necessary to discuss political reform in the country and signaled support for district voting, which changes the way in which seats in the Legislature are elected. “To what extent are people being represented, are territories being represented? And then comes the discussion of the district vote,” he said.
There is a discussion in the , led by leaders from the center, about the , which would leave half of the vacancies for the proportional system as it currently works, and the other half destined for votes by districts, in a similar way to that applied in the United States. In practice, the proposal would reduce the impact of vote pullers.
One of the defenders of mixed district voting.
Tarcísio also declared that he will discuss with Bolsonaro about the composition of the ticket in São Paulo, which must have a PL member running for one of the two vacancies – the other must be contested by the former state secretary of Public Security, (PP).
“I intend to have a conversation with the man himself [ex-]President Bolsonaro about this, with Eduardo [Bolsonaro]. It was a vacancy that would naturally belong to Eduardo, if he were in Brazil. But if not, we will look for the best name that can represent this group”, said the governor.
He added that “there is no big difference” about who the candidate will be. Today, the names most mentioned by PL members are federal deputy Mario Frias, deputy mayor of São Paulo, Coronel Mello Araújo, and deputy André do Prado, president of Alesp (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo).
