Plan presented by Iran has the Strait of Hormuz as the big pearl, but there are several demands from the Iranian side
Iran will not be attacked again, the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran will be lifted and, perhaps the icing on the cake for the whole world, the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened, albeit with conditions.
The United States and Iran have announced a ceasefire, even though the rhetoric of each of them attributes different merits and visions of what this means.
Looking at the message from the President of the United States and the information coming from Iran, the principle of agreement that pushed the parties towards talks that begin next Friday with a view to the definitive end of the war is largely based on the 10-point plan demanded by Tehran.
The points in question are the following:
1. Guarantee that Iran will not be attacked again;
2. Permanent end to the war, not just a ceasefire;
3. End of Israeli attacks in Lebanon;
4. Lifting of all US sanctions against Iran;
5. End of all regional fighting against Iranian allies;
6. Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz;
7. Iran will impose a tax of two million dollars per ship transiting Hormuz;
8. Iran would share these fees with Oman;
9. Iran will establish rules for safe passage through Hormuz;
10.Iran would use Hormuz taxes for reconstruction instead of reparations.
Not all points were addressed by both parties, but Iran made a point of remembering that the economic bomb is on its side. The same is to say that there is no security in the Strait of Hormuz if Tehran wants it.
For this reason, the statement from Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, was categorical in remembering that the liberation of the Strait of Hormuz will always be coordinated by the Iranian Armed Forces.
According to the state press, it is also necessary to end the entire war in the region, including against pro-Iran groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas, in addition to the departure of all US forces from bases in the Middle East.
Taking this demand literally, it means that Israel, the third party involved in the conflict, will have to stop attacks against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, where the war has continued uninterruptedly since October 7, 2023. In parallel, the offensives in Lebanon against Hezbollah will also have to end.
Furthermore, Iran also warned that the existence of talks with the United States does not mean the end of the war, as this will only happen when all the details are finalized, which must meet the 10-point plan.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council even promised to continue with “its fingers on the trigger”, and that “the slightest mistake will be responded to with full force”.
Iran also says that the United States agrees that the country can continue enriching uranium, something that had been cited by Donald Trump as one of the causes of the war.
