Abel Ferreira is suspended by the STJD due to expulsions – 04/09/2026 – Sport

Palmeiras coach, Abel Ferreira, was suspended this Thursday (9) by the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice) for eight matches due to expulsions in recent matches against Fluminense and São Paulo, for the Brazilian Championship.

The Portuguese coach has already served two games of automatic suspension due to red cards, with six more to be served.

With the punishment, the coach will not be on the bench in the classic against Corinthians, on Sunday (12), in Itaquera, for the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship.

Abel Ferreira was judged by the 2nd Disciplinary Commission for the expulsions in the 2-1 victory over Fluminense, in Barueri, which resulted in a two-game suspension, and in the 1-0 victory over São Paulo, in Morumbi, which resulted in another six.

In the game against the Rio team, the coach was expelled after the end of the match by referee Felipe Fernandes de Lima for excessive complaints.

The referee wrote in the summary that he presented the red card to the Palmeiras coach because he “addressed the assistant Fernanda Gomes Antunes and the fourth referee Luis Tisne in a harsh, rude way and gesturing with his arms and clapping his hands in an ironic way”.

Against São Paulo, Abel was sent off by Anderson Daronco for calling the referee a “shit”, according to the match summary.

Abel Ferreira was denounced under article 258 of the CBJD (Brazilian Code of Sports Justice), which deals with “acting contrary to sporting ethics”.

Decisions are first instance and the club must appeal in search of a suspensive effect. In the assessment of the Alviverde management, the decision was inadequate and disproportionate in relation to the events that occurred.
