Kaja Kallasová rejects accusations that Europe is not involved in solving the crisis in the Middle East

Kaja Kallasová rejects accusations that Europe is not doing enough to solve the crisis in the Middle East. It brings to mind its own security challenges.

On Thursday, during a visit to the United Arab Emirates, the head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, rejected criticism that Europe is insufficiently involved in solving the crisis in the Middle East. In an interview with CNN, she described such claims as unfair, writes TASR according to the DPA agency.

“Of course, we can all do more,” admitted Kallas, but at the same time drew attention to the security challenges facing Europe. She recalled the Russian war against Ukraine, which has been going on for more than four years. “We did not see that the countries of the Persian Gulf really helped us there,” she added, noting that support cannot be unilateral.

The Union’s contribution to stability

Kallas emphasized that the Union is not the cause of the current crises in the Middle East, but nevertheless tries to contribute to regional stability. As examples, she cited naval missions to ensure safe shipping in the Red Sea, assistance to the Lebanese Armed Forces in the fight against the Hezbollah movement, as well as support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She also mentioned EU aid to the Palestinian Authority and efforts to strengthen air defense in the region.
