The speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baker Kalibaf, declared on Thursday that Lebanon is an integral part of the two-week ceasefire in Iran’s war with the United States. At the same time, he warned that the violation of the ceasefire will have serious consequences. TASR writes about it according to the AFP agency.
“Lebanon and the entire axis of resistance as allies of Iran form an integral part of the ceasefire,” Kalibaf stressed in a post on the social network X. He added that a violation of the ceasefire will lead to a strong response.
“axis of resistance” support
The so-called the axis of resistance includes groups and states in the region that Iran supports. It includes the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon, the radical Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip and other pro-Iranian paramilitary formations.
Qalibaf released his statement a day after Israel launched the most extensive series of attacks on Lebanon since the beginning of the current conflict. The Lebanese Civil Defense reported that at least 254 people had lost their lives. The Israeli attacks also caused great material damage.
Escalation of the conflict
The Israeli army’s operations in Lebanon followed the escalation of fighting with Hezbollah in early March and led to a significant deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the country. They also raised concerns of the international community about the stability of the region.
Tehran claims that Lebanon is part of a cease-fire between the US and Iran, which both Israel and Washington dispute.
Israel remains tough
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated on Thursday that the Israeli military will attack Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group “wherever necessary.”
In retaliation for Wednesday’s attacks, Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel on Thursday night. “This response will continue until the Israeli-American aggression against our country and our people ends,” the movement said.
The entire Hezbollah is considered a terrorist organization by, for example, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom or Germany, while the European Union considers only its military component.
