Kamala Harris says she is “thinking” about running for president in 2028

Former US Vice President Kamala Harris said on Friday (11) that she “maybe” run for president in 2028, adding at the 2026 National Action Convention that she is “thinking about it”.

“Look, maybe, maybe. I’m thinking about it. I’m thinking about it,” she told Reverend Al Sharpton when asked if she plans to run for the White House again.

was the Democratic candidate for president in the 2024 elections.

Her comments come amid growing speculation about what she might do next in her political career, following the release of a campaign memoir in late 2025 and the start of a book tour.

is also expected to participate in Democratic Party events in four southern states this month, as previously reported by CNN.

Although she said in an interview with Stephen Colbert of CBSin August 2025, that she did not want to “return to the system”, she hinted later that year that she might run again for the White House, telling Laura Kuenssberg of BBC: “I’m not finished.”

On Friday, Harris received a warm welcome at the conference of a progressive organization steeped in civil rights history, prompting chants of “run again” that briefly interrupted her speech at one point.

“I’m thinking about (running again), but let me also say this. I served for four years one step away from the presidency of the United States,” Harris said.

“I’ve spent countless hours in my office in the West Wing, just steps from the Oval Office. I’ve spent countless hours in the Oval Office, in the Situation Room. I know what the job is. And I know what it requires,” he added.

She went on to describe the “work that needs to be done” as she considers what a third presidential campaign would look like, with a potentially crowded scenario taking shape.

“I spent the last year traveling around the country, I spent a lot of time in the South and a lot of other places. And one thing I’m very clear about is that the status quo isn’t working and hasn’t been working for a lot of people for a long time,” said the former candidate.
