Dolly Martinez, who died this Saturday (11), had her life told in the 10th season of the reality show “Quilos Mortais”, broadcast in 2021.
At the time, aged 25, the young woman began her participation in the program weighing 269 kg and facing serious health problems — such as heart failure and oxygen dependence — factors that previously prevented her approval for bariatric surgery by Dr. Younan Nowzarada, one of the program’s protagonists.
Fresh start
After a troubled period, when she lived without a permanent home, Dolly managed to recover from the difficult situation she was experiencing. The achievement was shared with followers on his Instagram account. “Hi, everyone! This is Dolly Martinez, from ”. I’m no longer homeless. Living one day at a time. I love God and my family”, he stated on that occasion.
The lack of a safe and structured environment was one of the main reasons cited by Dr. Now for not authorizing the surgical procedure. At the time, she alternated between shelters and hotels, accompanied by her fiance, Philip.
Family rapprochement and mental health
Another turning point in Martinez’s life came when he reconciled with his mother, Staci. The relationship, marked by severe disagreements on the program, gave way to affectionate publications. In December 2022, when sharing a recording of a video call, Dolly wrote: “Me and my beautiful mother.”
In addition to maternal support, Dolly was also able to reconnect with her three-year-old daughter — who has been under Staci’s legal custody since birth.
Despite the important victories from a personal point of view, Dolly still faced a challenge that had accompanied her for years: the fight against the scale. This is because, in her participation in “Kilos Mortais”, Dolly lost only 18 kg, a result considered insufficient by the strict protocol.
Shortly after participating in the program, Dolly reappeared on social media when she posted a selfie with the text “Me, just me”, in an apparent reflection on her personal struggle with obesity.
Death was confirmed by the family
The news of Dolly’s death was given by her sister, Lindsey Cooper, in a Facebook post. The cause of death was not disclosed. “It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beautiful sister, Dolly,” Lindsey wrote. “Dolly had the brightest personality. She could light up any room with her laugh, her kindness and her loving spirit. She had a way of making everyone feel special, and her warmth will be with us forever,” he added.
Lindsey added that the family is heartbroken but finds comfort in believing that Dolly has been reunited with her father, writing, “Rest in peace…you will always be loved, always missed and never forgotten.”
