President criticizes Israeli prime minister, cites US support and says he considered breaking relations with country

According to Lula, the Israeli leader adopts a stance that disrespects international decisions. “I am convinced that Netanyahu is an out of line figure”he stated. For the president, the prime minister does not demonstrate commitment to diplomatic solutions to the conflict.
Lula said he seeks to separate the Israeli government from the country’s population. According to him, there are sectors of Israeli society that defend peace and do not agree with the current conduct of conflicts in the Middle East.
The PT member also stated that Israel’s actions are supported by the United States. According to him, without this support, the country would not maintain its current actions in the Gaza Strip. “Israel acts with the complacency of the United States”these.
Lula also declared that he considered breaking diplomatic relations with Israel, but decided to act with caution. According to him, a measure of this type requires careful evaluation so as not to compromise historical relationships. “I thought about breaking up, but you have to be careful not to make a hasty decision”he stated.
The president highlighted that Brazil maintains historical ties with Israel and highlighted the presence of the Jewish community in the country. According to him, any foreign policy decisions must consider this context and seek a balance between political positioning and diplomatic relations.
