Zema criticizes “rotten fruits” in the PL and accuses PT of populism in an election year

The former governor of Minas Gerais and pre-candidate for President, Romeu Zema (Novo), stated this Monday (13) that the Liberal Party (PL) has some “rotten fruits”. The statement was made in a conversation with journalists after participating in an event held by the São Paulo Commercial Association.

When asked about the PL, Zema said that there are internal problems in the party and “some rotten fruits” that are out of line with the principles defended by the party. According to the former governor, Novo would be the only party that actually bars candidates and parliamentarians who deviate from the party’s guidelines. “Whoever takes Novo’s proposals will conclude that it is perhaps the most right-wing party in Brazil,” he stated.

Criticism of the PT

During the event, the former governor also criticized the leadership of the Workers’ Party and classified the debate about the end of the 6×1 scale as “populism”.

“Lula and the PT are taking advantage of the electoral moment to give what they consider a prize, which is actually harmful to a large part of the population. It is the PT’s populism and we cannot expect anything different,” he said.

Zema also directly attacked Lula’s management and the performance of the former governor of Minas Gerais, Fernando Pimentel (PT), whom he classified as the “worst in history”. “In addition to the disaster in Brazil under the PT, there was the disaster in Minas under the PT. The devil sent Fernando Pimentel to Minas, who was the worst governor in history”, he declared.

Government plan

Romeu Zema is in São Paulo to present the guidelines of the government plan that he intends to launch together with his candidacy for President. In a statement, the former governor states that the plan was prepared in partnership with the Libertas Institute and has as priorities the fight against corruption and confronting privileges in the public sector.

Zema highlighted that the document seeks to present “concrete solutions to the country’s main challenges”, going beyond a simple list of intentions.
