The implementation of the unit had already been approved by the council in October 2024, within the 2026-2030 Business Plan. To complete the project, an investment of around US$1 billion is estimated.
The idea is that the works will resume in the 1st half of this year and that the unit will enter commercial operation in 2029.
Paralyzed since 2015, the implementation of the unit will be evaluated again from 2023, when Petrobras decided to return to the fertilizer segment.

The project estimates the production of approximately 3,600 tons per day of urea and 2,200 tons per day of ammonia, of which 180 tons are surplus and available for sale.
The production will be mainly destined for the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, Paraná and São Paulo, the country’s main agricultural producers.
Ammonia is a raw material for the fertilizer and petrochemical sectors. Urea is the most demanded nitrogen fertilizer in Brazil, with national consumption in the order of 8 million tons per year.
Agribusiness uses the product on corn, sugar cane, coffee, wheat and cotton plantations, in addition to application as a food supplement for ruminants.
