- Aviation fuel stocks in Europe are enough for six weeks, according to the IEA.
- Fatih Birol warns of possible flight cancellations due to the ongoing blocking of oil supplies.
- Birol describes the current situation as the biggest energy crisis in history.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) says Europe’s jet fuel supplies last for “around six weeks”. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AP agency. IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol drew attention to dwindling jet fuel stocks and warned of potential flight disruptions if oil supplies remain blocked.
Birol called the situation “the biggest energy crisis we have ever faced”. It was caused by restrictions on the supply of oil, gas and other important raw materials through the Strait of Hormuz as a result of the US and Israel’s war with Iran.
“The situation will have serious consequences for the global economy. And the longer it lasts, the worse it will be for economic growth and inflation in the world,” he said. As a result, “petrol, gas and electricity prices will rise,” Birol stressed to the AP, noting that some parts of the world “will be affected more than others.”
According to Birol, mainly Asian countries depend on energy from the Middle East, mentioning Japan, Korea, India, China, Pakistan and Bangladesh. “Then it will come to Europe and America,” he stated. If the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened, “I can say that soon we will hear reports that some flights … may be canceled due to lack of aviation fuel,” dodal Birol.
