"A part of me is leaving": Guardiola talks about the departure of "legend" Bernardo Silva

Bernardo Silva will even leave Manchester City, the club he has defended since 2017/18, at the end of this season. In an electrifying phase of the season, when citizens have relaunched the fight for the Premier League title, each game is a farewell for the Portuguese international. And so it was after the victory against leaders Arsenal last Sunday.

After the 2-1 victory against Arsenal, Pep Guardiola hugged Bernardo Silva and asked the fans to applaud the 31-year-old midfielder. The Spanish coach, who considers the Portuguese “one of the best players” he has ever coached, praised the captain after the match.

“If I talk too much, I’ll cry,” Guardiola began by admitting. “I would like to thank you on behalf of this club for everything Bernardo has done. He proves that football starts in the head and goes down to the feet. He is not the fastest player, but he knows exactly what is needed at each moment. He is always committed and has never been injured”, added the Catalan.

The coach praised the way Bernardo sees football and life, “always seeing the positive side”, and revealed that it will be difficult to stop living with the player.

“A part of me will leave. It will be difficult to imagine without him. On and off the field, for nine years, he was extremely, extremely, extremely important.”

Bernardo Silva’s future is still uncertain (or at least not public), but Guardiola guarantees that, “wherever he goes, the club will be very lucky to have him”.
