CNI wants to double trade between Brazil and Germany in 5 years

According to the president of the confederation, the Mercosur-EU agreement opens a window of opportunity for cooperation

A CNI (National Confederation of Industry) declared this Sunday (April 19, 2026) that it is necessary to double bilateral trade between Brazil and Germany over the next 5 years. The confederation stated that it has already raised more than US$20 billion because of the partnership between the countries.

The declaration was made after representatives of the Brazilian and German governments and industries met during the 52nd Brazil-Germany Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation, in Hannover (Germany).

The president of the CNI, Ricardo Alban, said during the meeting that the bilateral economic relationship between the countries has not yet reached its maximum potential, but that relations can advance with the Mercosur-EU agreement. “If we don’t move forward now, we will waste time and the chance to increase competitiveness”he declared.

At the meeting, topics such as the provisional application of the Mercosur-EU agreement, the agreement to avoid double taxation between countries and projects on artificial intelligence, decarbonization and biofuels were discussed.

Alban said that Brazil does not intend to be just a supplier of inputs, but a partner in technological development. He stated that the Brazilian energy matrix can help with European industrial decarbonization.
