Valkenburg – Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel made a strong start to Ardennes Week, winning the Amstel Gold Race for the first time. In the absence of cycling superstar Tadej Pogacar, the Belgian from the Red Bull team won the sprint after 257.2 kilometers from Maastricht to Valkenburg, ahead of last year’s winner Mattias Skjelmose from Denmark. The Frenchman Benoit Cosnefroy, Felix Großschartner’s UAE teammate, came third. The latter came in 49th, 2:55 minutes behind.
