USA orders delegate who worked in the Ramagem case to leave the country – 04/20/2026 – Politics

The government stated this Monday (20) that a Brazilian official had acted to manipulate the immigration system “to circumvent both formal extradition requests and prolong political witch hunts in” American territory.

The official mentioned would be the PF (Federal Police) delegate Marcelo Ivo de Carvalho, who works in Miami, according to the Sheet found out. He works as a PF attaché in Miami and was involved in the case that led to the arrest of the former federal delegate and former deputy last week by ICE, the US immigration agency. Ramagem was released two days later.

Marcelo returns to Brazil this Tuesday (21), according to PF sources interviewed by the report.

After the arrest of the former deputy, the Federal Police stated that there had been a joint action between the USA and Brazil. Now, she says she was not notified of the Trump administration’s request regarding Ivo’s departure from American territory.

“No foreigner can manipulate our immigration system to circumvent either formal extradition requests or prolong political witch hunts on US soil. Today, we request that the relevant Brazilian official leave our nation for attempting to do this,” says a post from the Embassy in Brazil, which was published on social media.

Another identical post was published by the US State Department’s Western Affairs office.

Marcelo Ivo was appointed, in March 2023, to serve as liaison officer with ICE (acronym in English for Immigration and Customs Service), in Miami. This type of mission for Brazilian federal police officers has a specific period. In the case of the role with ICE, it was for two years.

The stay of the delegate — who was previously superintendent of the PF in Paraíba — was extended until August 2026, according to an order published in the Official Gazette of the Union.

But, on March 17 of this year, the PF general delegate, Andrei Rodrigues, ordered Marcelo to be replaced by another delegate, Tatiana Torres. The formal exchange, therefore, took place before the episode of Ramagem’s arrest.

Following the episode involving former president Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) ally, convicted by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) for involvement in the coup plot, delegate Marcelo was “invited” to leave the USA, according to police officers interviewed by the report.

PF sources say that American diplomacy has the prerogative to request a replacement of this type and that Marcelo Ivo would return to Brazil anyway, as was already planned. The departure was accelerated, according to these sources, due to the events related to Ramagem and the pressure exerted by the Donald Trump government.

Ramagem’s case went through the then ICE liaison officer, according to these officers.

Ramagem was sentenced to prison last year in the same action that sent former president Jair Bolsonaro to jail.
