Education professionals from schools in Seixal demanded this Wednesday, in protest at the City Council, the removal of asbestos from educational establishments and the hiring of more operational assistants, matters that the municipality claims depend on government funding.
The protest was organized by the Union of All Education Professionals (STOP) and was attended by the president of the Seixal City Council, Paulo Silva, and the Education councilor, Maria João Macau.
The president of the municipality, Paulo Silva, explained to journalists that there was a sectoral agreement between the Government and the National Association of Municipalities, in which the Government was obliged to finance 100 percent the requalification of schools transferred to the municipalities.
At the end of the protest, STOP announced that it will hold a new meeting, but in front of the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, on May 12th, to which the Seixal City Council is invited.
According to Daniel Martins, from STOP’s management, the protest was organized by the group of schools in Vale de Milhaços, which challenged colleagues from other educational establishments, who were also present.
