Poll: Low rates for Trump - Citizens are worried about his mental state

His popularity has been at the lowest level of his tenure in recent days, with many criticizing his temper and the attack on him, according to Reuters/Ipsos findings.

The six-day survey, which was completed yesterday, shows that only 36% of Americans approve of Trump’s performance as president, unchanged from last month.

Trump reached his highest level of popularity, at 47%, immediately after his inauguration in January 2025.

What the numbers say about Trump

36% of Americans approve of US attacks on Iran, up from 35% in the April 10-12 survey.

The survey shows that many Americans, including members of the Republican Party, express concerns about the 79-year-old’s temperament and mental clarity.

Only 26% of Americans consider Trump composed. Republicans are split: 53% think he’s composed and 46% don’t, while some declined to answer the question. Only 7% of Democrats consider Trump composed.

Signs of confusion and outbursts

Trump has multiplied the signs of confusion lately by threatening to wipe Iranian civilization off the face of the earth, blowing up bridges and power plants, attacking Pope Leo for criticizing the Iran war.

But Trump had also threatened to attack US NATO ally Denmark when it resisted his plans to annex Greenland.

The White House declined to comment on the results of the investigation into Trump’s mental clarity.

51% of Americans – 14% of Republicans, 54% of independents and 85% of Democrats – think Trump’s mental health has worsened in the past year.

The Pope and the cost of living

60% of respondents said they have a favorable opinion of Pope Leo, compared to 36% who say the same about Trump.

They even have a more positive opinion of the Pope than of Democratic Party officials such as California Governor Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Only 16% of Americans support a US withdrawal from NATO, as Trump often threatens.

The war with Iran has caused gasoline prices to rise, which has affected the financial situation of most Americans. Trump’s approval rating on managing the cost of living in the United States is at 26%, the lowest it’s ever been. Conversely, only 26% of respondents said the US military operation in Iran was worth the cost.

Only 25% of respondents, 6% of Democrats and 57% of Republicans, said they believed US attacks on Iran would make America safer.
