Meteorologists from the portal point out that there will be a significant change in the weather. The arrival of a cold front is expected, which will bring a noticeable drop in temperatures in the near future. The cold front opened the doors to a cold flow, which will gain strength in the coming period.
After precipitation and local storms, another wave of significant cooling awaits us. A massive high pressure area is currently spreading over Scandinavia, which is pulling cold, continental air from the north towards us along its edge. Get ready for the return of winter clothing as we’re in for a week of well below average temperatures. According to meteorologists, the final decade of April will be 3 to 5 °C colder than usual for this period.
The cold current will not leave us at least until the end of the week, that is, until April 26. Daily maximums rise to only 8 °C in the north and 15 °C in the southern districts. Although at the end of the week the mercury in the thermometer will warm up slightly can attack the 20 °C limit, values will still lag behind the long-term April average.
Experts believe there may be a temporary warming, but the outlook suggests a further advance of a cold front, which is likely to start a new wave of cooling. Since the average daily temperature in our territory drops below 13 °C, the heating season is still ongoing in many regions. According to the current prospects, heating will be necessary until the beginning of May, while in the northern parts of Slovakia the operation of the boilers will be necessary throughout the day.
However, the greatest risk is represented by frosty nights. In addition to ground frosts, frosts of up to two meters may also occur in some areas during the next few nights, which poses a threat especially to vegetation. It is this phenomenon that poses a serious risk to blossoming fruit trees, where frosts can cause fatal damage to the future harvest.
