Zelensky says Druzhba pipeline ready, calls for €90 billion in EU aid

Ukraine’s president, , said earlier on X that his country had completed repairs on the Druzhba pipeline, which carries oil from Russia to Hungary and Slovakia, passing through Ukrainian territory. The facilities were damaged by attacks in August 2025. Citing an industry source, the Reuters news agency reported that operations should resume this Wednesday afternoon, the 22nd.

“The pipeline can start operating again,” said Zelensky. “Although no one can at this time guarantee that Russia will not repeat attacks, our experts have ensured the basic conditions to restore the functioning of the system,” he added.

The resumption of pipeline operations could pave the way for the release of a 90 billion euro aid package from the European Union to Ukraine, which was being blocked by Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban, defeated by Péter Magyar in an election held on April 12.

“It is essential that the European support package for Ukraine is unlocked. There can no longer be any justification for blocking it. The EU asked Ukraine to repair the Druzhba oil pipeline, which had been destroyed by Russia. We have repaired it. We hope that the EU will also fulfill the agreed commitments,” Zelensky said.
