He foreign minister Iranian, Abbas Araghchishould arrive during the night of this Friday Islamabadthe capital of Pakistanto discuss the second round of negotiations with the US, which must “take place soon”, according to Pakistani sources have assured the press.

Araghchi, however, arrives in Islamabad leading a small entouragewithout the accompaniment of the President of Parliament, Mohammed Bagher Ghalibafone of the most powerful men in the world Iran current and who led the Tehran delegation in the first round of negotiations with Washington. That round, two weeks ago, ended in “failure,” in the words of the American vice president himself, J.D. Vancewho led the American delegation.

This second round – which could take place this weekend but whose completion has not yet been confirmed by neither side—had to be held last Wednesday, with Vance canceling in the last minute his journey to Islamabad.

“Araghchi begins a tour regional first visiting Islamabad, and then masked [Omán] y Moscow to bilateral discussions on the latest state of the US war and Israel imposed on Iran,” Persian state television clarified.

Iran gave sit-in at the talks alleging that the US, with its blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, is “constantly violating” the temporary ceasefire in the region, extended this Tuesday indefinitely by the American president, Donald Trump.

“Iran has before it a important decision. They have the opportunity to reach an agreement. So to the Iranian regime I say: our blockade is being squeezed by the minute. We control Hormuz. Nothing enters. nothing comes out. We have all the time in the world. “We are in no hurry to reach an agreement,” the secretary of war American, the controversial Pete Hegseth.

American presence

Since Monday, and much to the dismay of the residents of Islamabad, the Pakistani capital has been placed in an almost total quarantine, with 20,000 agents controlling the security of the area where the Serena Hotelwhich hosted the first round of negotiations and the second should be held.

In Pakistan, as Washington confirmed this week, there is a American technical and protocol team. Vance, the chief negotiator of the White House, Steven Witkoffand Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner —the three men who led talks with Iran two weeks ago—are not on Pakistani territory.

Even if these negotiations occur, both countries are still in very distant positions, especially on two major issues: the status of the Strait of Hormuzblocked by both Iran and the US, and the future of iranian nuclear program. Iran claims it is not even willing to hand over its 440 kilos of highly enriched uranium nor to suspend the enrichment process.

Until June 2025, the Islamic Republic enriched uranium to levels higher than 60%very close to 90% necessary to develop the atomic bomb and far superior to 3% required to create nuclear power for civil use.
