The former minister and former governor () participated in an event for his party this Saturday morning (25) in São Paulo and said that he will decide in May whether to accept the invitation from the party’s president, , to . He said that, if he had any sense, he would refuse the proposal.
“I really wanted to, but I couldn’t [ser presidente]. And, in the last election, I felt deeply humiliated by a fascist campaign that denied me the very right to participate. It’s an embarrassing thing and if I had any sense, I wouldn’t come any closer to this fascist political court side by side, neither to congratulate nor to offer condolences”, Ciro told reporters, before going on stage.
In , Ciro ran for President for the fourth time, coming in fourth place, with 3% of the valid votes. He was pressured throughout the campaign by PT members to give up, to avoid a loss of votes for . In the second round, he declared his vote for the current president, without participating in campaign activities.
This year, Ciro had been articulating a candidacy for the Government of Ceará. He justifies the plan by saying that, after the last election, he returned to the state and found it “in a situation of absolute surrender to organized crime.”
However, given Aécio’s invitation, he says he is obliged “out of respect for the PSDB, to think about the matter”.
Ciro’s campaign in Ceará was being built with an alliance that would include , the party of . The Bolsonarists, however, are working for the election of the senator (Novo-CE).
Ciro said he believes that, in his state, it is possible to build “a movement that locally allows us to overcome differences that are insurmountable at a national level.”
The tucano event in São Paulo took place in the party room of the Juventus club, in Mooca, east zone, and was aimed at pre-candidates for the party’s Legislature, with lectures on the use of social networks and electoral legislation.
The party’s state president, Paulo Serra, former mayor of and pre-candidate for the São Paulo government, estimated that the party will launch 195 candidates for the Chamber of Deputies and Alesp (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo).
To journalists, before going on stage, Ciro gave a speech criticizing the federal government, citing high family debt and what he called the lack of a national plan for rare earths, minerals that have emerged as a vital resource for the expansion of artificial intelligence.
On stage, he reinforced the nationalized discourse. “Just this week, the government decided to authorize the use of workers’ funds to honor debts,” he said. “The FGTS, in stock, is the last volume of money to finance basic sanitation and popular housing. And, in flow, it is where workers who are laid off, sick, need to get married, go to be able to withdraw. Now, with applause from the public, this money goes to the banks.”
He also said that Brazil needs a “break” and that he will do everything he can to help.
Research carried out in March disputes the Government of Ceará, with 47% of voting intentions. The current governor, Elmano de Freitas (PT), scored 32% at the time. The former presidential candidate governed the state from 1991 to 1994.
