The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly committing crimes of sexual abuse committed against his 17-year-old stepdaughter, on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores, he announced this Saturday in a statement.
The investigation by the PJ’s Azores Investigation Department began on Thursday, “following a complaint from the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People, after revealing the victim in a school context”he added.
“The immediate investigations allowed us to gather strong evidence that the stepfather, taking advantage of the relationship of trust and closeness, subjected his stepdaughter to significant sexual acts, carried out when he was alone in the residence with the minor”, it reads.
According to the PJ, the man is suspected of committing crimes of sexual abuse of minors dependents or in a particularly vulnerable situation, committed in the residence where they lived with the victim.
The detainee will be presented to the competent judicial authorities for the first judicial interrogation and “application of appropriate coercive measures”.
