Von der Leyen expresses her “solidarity” to Trump

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has spoken with the American president, Donald Trump, to convey her “solidarity” after the “attempted attack” that occurred in Washington on Saturday.

“I just spoke with Donald Trump to express my solidarity with him and (the first lady, Melania Trump) after the attempted attack,” the European president said through social networks.

“Thanks to the security services, no one has been seriously injured and the injured police officer has been recovering. We have stressed that political violence has no place in our democracies,” he added.

The incident occurred last night during the annual dinner of the White House Correspondents’ Association, which was attended by Trump and senior members of the government.

The Secret Service has evacuated the president, his wife and other members of the US Government, such as the secretaries of State, Marco Rubio, of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, and of War, Pete Hegseth, after shots were heard when the attacker tried to break into the room where the gala was held, at the Hilton Hotel in Washington.
