Playing with one less since the end of the first half, Corinthians beat Vasco 1-0 this Sunday afternoon (26), at the Neo Química Arena, in Itaquera, in a game valid for the 13th round of the Brazilian Championship.
With the result, the black and white team reached 15 points, gained three positions on the leaderboard and left the relegation zone, momentarily in 14th place.
With the support of around 42 thousand fans present in the stands, Corinthians started the game by putting pressure on Vasco in their defense, but with the main dangers only in set pieces.
The scoring only opened in the 37th minute of the first half, with Matheus Bidu finishing into the back of the net from the right, after a good pass from Argentine Rodrigo Garro.
A few minutes after the goal, at 44, midfielder André received a red card, after a harsh tackle on Thiago Mendes.
With one more, Vasco returned from the break trying to bring more danger to Kauê’s goal — starter Hugo Souza was suspended —, but without the necessary effectiveness on the part of the attackers.
“We tried to do our best, the people at the front are to be congratulated for what they did. We needed the victory anyway, we got the three points”, said Gustavo Henrique after the match.
“Our team is experienced. I believe we are on the right path”, added the defender.
It is Corinthians’ sixth unbeaten game, with four wins and two draws, without any goals scored during the sequence.
The São Paulo team’s next commitment is on Thursday (30), in a duel for the Copa Libertadores, against Peñarol, again in Itaquera. Vasco hosts Olimpia, also on Thursday, for the Copa Sudamericana, in São Januário.
