STF sees alliance between Moraes and Davi to defeat Messias – 04/30/2026 – Politics

Ministers of the (Supreme Federal Court) assess that he and the president of , (-AP), formed an alliance to bury the approval of him as a new member of the court.

The reading that there was a joint action comes not only from magistrates linked to the group of , Messias’ main electoral leader in the Senate, but also from ministers who until now were considered allies of Moraes in the court.

Messias’ defeat created a new internal conflict and could change the balance of forces in the STF.

According to reports made to SheetMoraes did not enter the field to ask for votes against Messias, but made his reticent position on the STF nominee reach the senators through interlocutors — including Alcolumbre himself, with whom he had dinner twice over the last week.

Moraes was with Alcolumbre on Thursday (23), at the minister’s house, and on Tuesday (28), the eve of the Messias hearing, when he invited the president of the Senate to dinner at his home, along with other guests.

People who followed Messias’ campaign to the STF claim that Moraes was aware of all of Alcolumbre’s steps to overthrow the president’s nominee (PT). Both even had the same vote prospecting “map” after the hearing. Ministers who worked for the approval of Messiah felt betrayed by Moraes.

Aides to Mendonça and the minister believe that Moraes was against the approval of Messias because there was a possibility that the new minister would join the Master case rapporteur’s group, which would become the majority in the court.

They also attribute the alliance between Moraes and Alcolumbre to a gesture by the magistrate so that the president of the Senate does not initiate impeachment requests against Supreme Court ministers.

Moraes and the minister are at the center of the tension that the STF has faced in public opinion and the National Congress, due to suspected relations with the former banker, owner of Master, who is negotiating a plea bargain agreement.

Despite being more aligned with Moraes in the internal division of the Supreme Court (a group that includes , who does not have a good relationship with the Union’s attorney general), Toffoli was in favor of Messias’s appointment to the court and also regretted the disapproval.

Moraes and the STF communications secretariat were contacted by Sheet at 2:04 pm this Thursday (30), but the messages were not returned until the publication of this report. The minister said to interlocutors that he did not ask for votes against Messias.

As shown by the SheetSTF ministers assess that, in addition to the alliance between Moraes and Alcolumbre, the power of influence of the magistrates who acted in favor of Messias proved to be lower than initially predicted.

A magistrate told an assistant that it was worrying that Mendonça was the rapporteur of two of the most controversial cases in politics (the Master and the INSS) and yet he was unable to turn over votes among opposition senators.

There is also a reading that the recent “scoldings” that the minister gave to senators who are part of CPIs (parliamentary commissions of inquiry) soured the atmosphere between the Senate and the STF and reduced the dean’s ability to sensitize parliamentarians.
