A nursing technician registered a police report in Brasília, reporting that she was attacked by Senator Magno Malta (PL-ES) while trying to carry out an examination on the parliamentarian, who has been hospitalized since he suffered a sudden illness on Thursday, 30, in the Senate.
The senator’s team claims that the accusation of assault is false and that images of the exam room were requested. Magno Malta’s lawyers claim that he was the victim of a technical failure in the exam that caused him intense pain.
“The person responsible for the CT angiography examination administered the contrast in a technically incorrect way, generating extravasation of the liquid in the Senator’s right arm, with the formation of thrombosis and significant hematoma, an event of high clinical severity, with the potential for circulatory compromise and risk to the patient’s physical integrity”, says a note from the parliamentarian’s lawyer sent to Estadão.
According to the nursing technician’s report, after preparing the senator for the injection of contrast into the vein, the procedure was interrupted on Thursday the 30th. It was found that the substance leaked, a situation that would require the application of pressure on the arm. At that moment, Magno Malta would have cursed the professional and slapped her hard in the face.
In a statement, DF Star Hospital reported that it had initiated an administrative investigation into the episode and that it has been “providing full support to the employee who reported having been a victim of aggression”. He also said he was available to provide all necessary clarifications to the police.
The Regional Nursing Council of the Federal District (Coren-DF) also repudiated the event.

“The performance of these professionals cannot be marked by episodes of violence. No position or condition authorizes aggression, and all conduct of this nature must be treated with the rigor of the law. The violence suffered by health workers in the exercise of their duties exceeds any acceptable limit and highlights a problem that cannot be treated as a one-off,” he said.
Magno Malta released a statement denying aggression and reinforcing that there was a technical flaw in the procedure to which he was subjected, “even after he warned, on several occasions, to those present, that the procedure was incorrect and caused him severe pain”.
In the note, he also pointed out that “this type of incident can cause intense pain, burning, swelling, local hardening, inflammation, hematoma and, in more serious cases, tissue damage that requires immediate medical monitoring”.
“It is strange that the professional involved sought to record her own version of the facts, in an evident defensive attitude towards the possibility of being held responsible for the serious incident,” he said.
On Friday, the 1st, the parliamentarian recorded a video from inside the hospital for social media asking his supporters not to fall for fake news. In this video, he shows a doctor apologizing and saying that the case will be investigated.
