This Saturday, Pope Leo XIV appointed a former illegal immigrant as bishop of a diocese in the United States. The appointment comes after having already criticized the immigration policies implemented by Donald Trump,
The nominee, Evelio Menjivar-Ayala, born in El Salvador, emigrated to the United States in 1990, with the aim of escaping the war. He has now been named bishop of the diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, Virginia.
The leader of the Catholic Church has already classified current US immigration policies as “extremely disrespectful”.
