A strong earthquake hit the holiday destination: Terrible WHAT happened at the police station!

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Samar Island in the central Philippines on Monday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. Authorities did not immediately report any injuries. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency. The earthquake occurred at 2:09 p.m. local time (8:09 a.m. CET) and the epicenter was located approximately nine kilometers from the coastal city of San Julian at a depth of 73.3 kilometers.

  • A magnitude six earthquake has hit the island of Samar in the central part of the Philippines.
  • The tremors occurred in the afternoon local time with the hypocenter at a depth of seventy-three kilometers.
  • The epicenter was approximately nine kilometers from the coastal city of San Julian.
  • The earthquake did not cause any reported injuries, the structure of the police station was damaged.
  • The Philippines experienced stronger earthquakes on the islands of Mindanao and Cebu last year.

One of the local police officers told AFP that the tremors were “strong and sudden”. No injuries have been reported yet, but this officer added that the supporting beam to which the roof of the building is attached broke at the police station.

AFP notes that earthquakes are almost a daily occurrence in the Philippines. Together with Indonesia and other neighboring countries, they are located in the so-called Fire circle. It is an area in the Pacific known for intense seismic activity. However, most of the tremors are too weak for people to feel them.

In October of last year, earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.4 and 6.7 hit the island of Mindanao, as a result of which eight people died. The tremors came just days after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit the island of Cebu, which killed 76 people and destroyed 72,000 homes, according to government figures.
