A United States warship was hit by 2 missiles, this Monday (May 4, 2026), in the Strait of Hormuz region, according to the Iranian state news agency Fars. Earlier, Iran’s military said it maintains the “total control” on the safety of the sea and that the “passage without coordination is prohibited”.
On Sunday (May 3), the President of the United States, (Republican Party), launched an operation to free vessels that are stuck in the sea, starting this Monday (May 4).
According to Farsthe American ship sought to cross the Strait of Hormuz and was targeted after ignoring a warning from the Iranian Navy. The vessel was forced to retreat and leave the region.
So far, there is no information about victims or the extent of the damage.
In a statement by Fars This Monday (May 4), the commander of the Central General Headquarters Khatam al-Anbiya, Major General Ali Abdollahi, stated that any foreign military force will be attacked if it tries to pass through the strait without obtaining authorization from Iran.
Abdollahi warned supporters of “Evil America” so that they act prudently. According to him, any aggressive movement by the Americans will put the safety of vessels in the region at risk.
Iran has blocked virtually all shipping in the Strait of Hormuz for more than 2 months. Around 20% of the world’s oil and gas passes through sea. In April, the US imposed a blockade on ships entering Iranian ports.
When announcing the operation to remove vessels trapped in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said he was responding to requests for “countries around the world”.
In his profile on , the Republican said: “Countries around the world, almost all of them not involved in the Middle East dispute that is taking place so visibly and violently, have asked the United States to help free their ships, which are stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, in a situation with which they have absolutely nothing to do – they are just neutral and innocent observers.”
Trump stated that the movement of ships aims to free people, companies and countries that are “victims of circumstances”. He reported that vessels face shortages of food and other essential items.
