Russian spokesman’s statement comes after Ukrainian drones hit the port of Primorsk, damaging the oil terminal
Russian government spokesman, said this Sunday (May 3, 2026) that global oil prices could rise further if Ukraine continues to attack Russia’s oil infrastructure.
The statement was given to Get marrieda Russian television broadcaster, after Ukrainian forces launched drone attacks on the Baltic Sea port of Primorsk and other Russian facilities. Oil prices are currently above $100 per barrel.
In the early hours of this Sunday (May 3), Ukrainian forces attacked Russian installations in different regions. According to the news agency the port of Primorsk was hit, one of Russia’s largest export ports, with damage to the oil terminal. An oil tanker, a Russian Karakurt-class missile ship and a patrol boat were fired upon in the Baltic Sea.
Peskov said: “If additional volumes of our oil are removed from the market, prices will rise further from current levels”. The spokesperson added: “This would mean that, even with lower export volumes, our companies would earn more money and the State would receive more revenue”.
Alexander Drozdenko, governor of the northwest region that hosts the port, said more than 60 drones were shot down overnight. The fire in Primorsk was quickly extinguished. There was no oil leak following the attack.
According to the Reutersattacks were also recorded in other Russian regions. In Belgorod, on the border with Ukraine, a drone hit a car. In Moscow, 4 drones were shot down on their way to the Russian capital, according to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. In the Smolensk region, a drone attacked an apartment building in the city.
