Brussels – Austria is allowed to pay out subsidies to energy-intensive companies for higher electricity prices that they have due to emissions costs as part of the EU emissions trading system (ETS). The European Commission approved corresponding Austrian and Spanish regulations on Tuesday in Brussels within the framework of EU state aid regulations. The aim is to reduce company relocations to countries outside the EU with less ambitious climate policies.
