Fire of unknown origin hit civilian ships in southern Iran

Tehran presents new proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz

Several merchant marine ships docked in Dayyer, in southern Iran, suffered a fire of unknown origin this Tuesday, which firefighters are trying to control.

The head of the fire department at the Iranian port, Majid Omrani, reported that two ships caught fire and that the flames spread to two wooden barges in the port of Dayyer, located in Bushehr province, southern Iran.

The same source indicated that firefighters are working to control the fire and that the cause of the fire is still unknown, according to Iranian news agency Mehr.

The fire occurred at a time of tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, where the United States launched “Operation Freedom” to recover ships blocked by Iran.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates suffered several attacks today, attributed to Iran, which targeted an oil installation in Fujairah and also claimed to have intercepted 15 missiles.

The Strait of Hormuz is under double blockade imposed by Iran and the United States.

Iran restricted the passage of vessels in response to air strikes by the United States and Israel on February 28, while the US Navy intercepts ships entering or leaving Iranian ports.
