US President says there is progress in negotiations and conditions outcome to Iranian response in the next 48 hours
The President of the United States, (Republican Party), intensify attacks against Iran if there is no agreement to end the war. According to him, bombings can be carried out “at a much greater level and intensity than before“. The statement was made this Wednesday (April 6, 2026), one day after Trump suspended the operation in which American forces protected commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The region has been almost completely blockaded by Iran since the start of the conflict on February 28, which entered into a tense ceasefire on April 7.
In a publication on the Truth Social network, Trump stated that, if Iran accepts the terms under negotiation, the so-called “Operation Epic Fury” —the name used by Washington for the conflict— could be closed. According to him, this would allow the Strait of Hormuz to reopen for international navigation, including for the Iranians themselves.
“If they do not agree, the bombings will begin and, unfortunately, they will be at a much greater level and intensity than before“, he wrote.
On Tuesday (April 5, 2026), the president had already indicated progress in the negotiations and mentioned “great progress” towards a definitive agreement with Iranian representatives. Despite maintaining the blockade on Iranian ships, he said that Project Freedom was temporarily suspended to enable the conclusion of negotiations.
According to the website the United States and Iran are close to an understanding based on a one-page memorandum, which calls for an end to the war and the creation of a framework for future negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. Sources interviewed by the portal claim that this is the closest moment to an agreement since the beginning of the conflict.
The White House awaits a response from Iran on the document’s central points within the next 48 hours, with a deadline of Friday morning (April 8, 2026), Brasília time.
