From Monday, May 11, the government will reduce the extraordinary and temporary discount on the Tax on Petroleum and Energy Products (ISP) applied to road diesel and unleaded gasoline on the continent. The change was published this Friday in the Official Gazette of the Union and comes in light of the forecast of a drop in fuel prices next week.
According to , on May 8, the new ISP discounts are now 60.78 euros for every 1000 liters on road diesel and 49.80 euros for every 1000 liters on unleaded gasoline. These values correspond, in practice, to 6.078 cents per liter for diesel and 4.98 cents per liter for gasoline.
Given the values in force in the previous week, set by , the discount falls by 1.47 cents per liter on diesel and around 0.22 cents per liter on gasoline. In the week that began on May 4, the discounts were R$75.48 per 1,000 liters on diesel and R$51.97 per 1,000 liters on gasoline.
ISP unit rates have also been updated
The new ordinance also fixes the ISP unit rates applicable on the continent. In the case of unleaded gasoline, the rate increases to R$447.72 per 1 thousand liters, while for road diesel it increases to R$300.82 per 1 thousand liters. These values are part of the road service consignment, of R$87 per 1 thousand liters for gasoline and R$111 per 1 thousand liters for diesel.
Government maintains temporary mechanism
The government justifies the change with the prospect of a drop in the prices of road diesel and unleaded gasoline next week. According to the diploma, despite this expected drop, the condition defined to maintain the extraordinary mechanism still exists, applied when the price increase exceeds 10 cents in relation to the week of March 2nd to 6th.
This temporary mechanism was created to return to consumers the additional VAT tax revenue generated by rising fuel prices, through a reduction in ISP unit rates. The ordinance frames the measure within the impact of the geopolitical and military crisis in the Middle East on the prices of oil and its derivatives.
Measure applies from May 11th
The new update takes effect next Monday and replaces the values set for the previous week. The ordinance was signed by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, and the Secretary of State for Fiscal Affairs, Cláudia Reis Duarte Melo de Carvalho.
