Israeli offensives in Lebanon leave at least 39 dead

Israeli attacks hit al-Saksakieh, Nabatieh and other southern cities despite US-brokered ceasefire

Israeli attacks in several Lebanese cities killed at least 39 people on Saturday (May 9, 2026). The ceasefire mediated by the United States has been in force for 3 weeks, with a 2nd round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon taking place on May 14th and 15th. Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health said an Israeli attack on the town of al-Saksakieh in the southern district of Sidon killed 7 people. A child was among the dead. The attack also injured 15 people, including 2 children.

Israeli forces also killed a father and daughter in Nabatieh. Three people died in Nahrain. Another 3 were killed in Saadiyat and 3 more in Haboush. One person was killed in Mefdoun.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that an Israeli drone fired a guided missile at a motorcycle near shops along a road. One person died in the attack. Another 3 young men were killed in an airstrike on a building in the al-Bayad neighborhood of Nabatieh.

Since April 16, Israeli forces have killed nearly 500 people in Lebanon. The total number of deaths reached 2,750 people, according to the country’s Ministry of Health.

On Saturday (May 9), Hezbollah also launched artillery shell attacks against Israeli positions in the cities of Biyyada and Rachaf, in southern Lebanon, according to state media. The group carried out a drone attack on the border town of Misgav Am.
