Colman Domingo on Chadwick Boseman: “Propels me to the other side”

Actor Colman Domingo, 56, fondly remembered Chadwick Boseman and gave details about his special relationship with the actor. The “Black Panther” star died in August 2020, at the age of 43, due to complications related to colon cancer.

Colman participated in some play readings with Chadwick and, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published by People magazine, recalled the beginning of his friendship with the star, saying that he praised him during a party in Hollywood.

“I said, ‘Hi, Chad. I’m Colman. Do you remember me? I’m so proud of all your success and everything you’re doing. It’s beautiful to watch your rise.'”

“He literally looked at me and said, ‘You guys need to meet this guy here. This guy is the man. I’m serious, keep his name. I know this man.'” the actor said.

The pair later starred together in “The Ultimate Voice of the Blues,” which became Chadwick’s final film role.

Colman also admitted that her friend’s death affected him especially hard, as he was one of the few actors she turned to for advice.

“Among my contemporaries who actually come from the same background as me, whether it’s growing up on the outskirts or simply being an African-American man, there aren’t many men who occupy this rare space. There are only a few who I can talk to and ask, ‘When I go through this phase, what should I look out for? How should I defend myself? Or defend others?’ .”

He concluded by talking about his special bond with his friend: “I really feel like he has pushed people like me and Michael B. Jordan on the other side.”

“I believe I have a very special little angel in my friend Chadwick.”
