Russia bombarded Ukraine with missiles and drones. Odessa and Dnipro report 12 injured and heavy damage to buildings

Russia hit Odesa and Dnipro overnight with a large-scale combined drone and missile attack. The strikes injured civilians and severely damaged infrastructure.

Russia launched a large-scale combined missile and drone attack on central and southern Ukraine on Monday night, with the main targets being the port city of Odessa and the industrial center of Dnipro. According to preliminary information from local authorities, the attacks left at least 12 civilians injured and caused serious damage to civilian infrastructure. TASR informs about it based on the reports of the DPA agency and the Ukrainska pravda portal.

  • Russia attacked Odesa and Dnipro with rockets and drones at night.
  • The attacks caused at least twelve wounded civilians and extensive infrastructure damage.
  • In Odessa, drones hit residential buildings, injuring a boy and an elderly man.
  • In Dnipro, drones and rockets caused a fire in a block of flats and a warehouse of pyrotechnics.
  • The overnight strikes came after a massive Ukrainian drone strike deep inside Russian territory.

In Odessa, according to the head of the military administration there, Serhiy Lysak, drones hit residential buildings, while an 11-year-old boy and a 59-year-old man were injured. The attacks also damaged the building of the local lyceum and kindergarten.

Strong explosions in the Dnipro

At least nine people, including a child, were injured in Ukraine’s fourth-largest city, Dnipro, which was attacked by Russian forces at 19:00 local time (18:00 CEST). Drones were the first to attack, followed later by ballistic missiles and surface-to-air missiles. A series of loud explosions were heard in the city between 02:00 and 03:00 local time. As a result of the interventions, the roof of the 24-storey block of flats caught fire, and a massive fire also engulfed the warehouse with pyrotechnics.

The overnight strikes come after Russia launched one of its biggest attacks this year on the Ukrainian capital of Kiev on May 14. The Ukrainian military responded to it on Sunday with a massive retaliatory strike of more than 500 drones on targets deep in the interior of Russia, including the Moscow region, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described as a fully justified response.
