The week was dominated by banker Daniel Vorcaro’s demand, from Banco Master, for financing installments for the film “”, about the life of Jair Bolsonaro. Revealed by Intercept Brasil, the case worsened when another report pointed out that Eduardo Bolsonaro signed a contract with powers over the production budget and had directed the sending of resources to a fund in Texas, the . The topic peaked on May 14th, but remains very relevant.
According to data from , which analyzes more than 100,000 public Telegram groups in real time, the topic dominated political conversation last week. The volume of messages has grown markedly since the moment the audios were released, on May 13, and “” appears in 46% of all messages that mention the Bolsonaro family. Mentions of the pre-candidate tripled after the video criticizing him.
Bolsonarism organized a quick and coordinated response on the networks. Despite this, only 38% of the messages that were positioned were published. The main argument in favor is that it is a “selective” and “criminal” leak, the work of a “PT portal” aimed at reaching those who “lead the polls”. The Intercept is mentioned in 10% of all messages in the clipping, generally accompanied by a narrative of persecution, since, according to what they argue, it is a “private capture”, “private film”, “zero public money”.
The defense is efficient in mobilizing already converted activists, but the high repetition of content indicates organized distribution rather than spontaneous adherence. The problem is that shielding by repetition does not build an explanation, causing the base to react to the accusation without dissolving it. In a case in which the senator himself confirmed the authenticity of the audio, insisting that everything is just a narrative tends to sound unconvincing to those outside the bubble. There is also a counterattack, present in around 4% of messages, which attempts to shift the focus to government contracts.
Among the messages positioned as critical of the Bolsonaro family, which corresponds to 62% of those that took a position on the topic, the hashtag BolsoMaster appears as the unifying axis in almost 10% of the total. Here the narrative is not limited to the film, but tries to reactivate the memory of the “rachadinha” and talks about corruption, bribery and embezzlement, terms present in around 5% of the messages. Requests for arrest, CPI and investigation total 12%. is the most explored link, as it concentrates .
So far, the person most affected by the episode has been Romeu Zema. The pre-candidate was harshly attacked by Bolsonarists in the public groups analyzed by Palver and went from 78% positive mentions to 82% negative mentions in less than 24 hours. The brand of traitor that fell on Zema makes it impossible, at least in the current scenario, for any type of negotiation with Flávio’s campaign. Bolsonarism found itself more spontaneously engaged in rather than defending Flávio.
Palver data shows that the topic punctured the bubble and both Flávio Bolsonaro and Zema reached their historic peak in mentions. The Vorcaro case means frustration for those who want a candidacy that represents the right with morality. This does not mean, however, that Flávio’s candidacy is over, Bolsonarism’s ability to react greatly reduced the initial damage caused by the audios. It remains to be seen and, above all, how they will be interpreted in the digital environment.
